About

Alexa Gajeton (she/her) is a Filipino-American artist who was born and raised in Virginia Beach. She spent much of her adolescence competing nationally as a rhythmic gymnast before discovering her passion for dance at the age of 9. This led her to train and perform at local studios, eventually graduating from the Visual and Performing Arts Academy at Salem High School.

Alexa earned her B.F.A. in Dance with a minor in Psychology from Point Park University, where she was part of the Conservatory Dance Company. During her time there, she had the privilege of performing works by celebrated choreographers such as Nacho Duato, Yin Yue, Sidra Bell, and Christopher Huggins. Alexa also pursued additional training through summer intensives, including those at Open Space Dance, NW Dance Project, San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, and Point Park University's International Summer Dance Program.

Currently based in Richmond, Virginia, Alexa is a founding member of Conflux Dance Theater, where she has performed works by Norbert De La Cruz, Stephanie Martinez, Miguel Perez, and Angelica Burgos. Additionally, she has danced with Washington National Opera at The Kennedy Center and has appeared in various commercials.

Artist Statement

As a dancer, my core values are rooted in self-expression, exploration, and community. I strive to continually challenge and expand my personal artistry and remind myself that I am always a student of dance, embracing every opportunity to learn and grow—whether in studio practice, collaboration, or performance.

As an Asian-American artist, diversity and being around other artists of color is something I value greatly. When individuals of different expressions come together as a collective to celebrate a range of beauty, ideas, talents, and passions, I think that is the catalyst in which great art can be made. Being part of something bigger than myself and engaging in a creative process alongside others is deeply rooted in my sense of community and where I find inspiration the most.

It is truly a privilege to be an artist and a gift to be able to use my body and love of movement as a way to engage with the world around me. In my work, my greatest desire is to share and connect: to share my voice and my experiences and to connect with others, through dance, the universal yet complex emotions that bind us and make up all of the beautiful things that make us human.
